BLACKOUT 2007: THE GEORGE BURGESS CONSPIRACY

• Did you know that for the first time in 25 years, Miami-Dade Corrections has NO Black assistant directors?

• Did you know that Miami-Dade County has NO Black assistant county managers?

• Did you know that the highest ranking Black administrator in the Elections Department (Milton Collins) was forced out of his position last week?

• Since his appointment in 2003, George Burgess has terminated or forced the resignation of more Black top administrators than any of his predecessors

• Every time a scandal I exposed, George Burgess deflects the blame towards his administrators (especially, Black administrators (See Miami Times July 19, 2007, page 6A, bottom right)

• Since the inception of the County Manager’s Trainee program, George Burgess’ administration has accepted the least amount of Black candidates

• African Americans make up 55% of homeless on the street per night according to Camillus House. Yet, George Burgess has allowed housing scandals in predominantly African-American communities by not insuring that safeguards and follow-up procedures were properly in place

Now that Mayor Alvarez has done all the work to get executive mayor powers, there will be many candidates running for the office. By pitting the Black community against Carlos Alvarez, another candidate who can draw votes from all segments of the community will win the seat in 2008. As a reward for his deceit and trickery, George Burgess will have secured his position as County Manager. Please do not be fooled by this "Trickster". A lot of people want Carlos Alvarez out because of his position on government reform. Let the mayor know he can start government reform right now by ousting County Mis-Manager George Burgess.
